Mobile Amateur Radio Corps (MARC)

The Mobile Amateur Radio Corps (MARC) is an all-volunteer group of special deputies who hold Amateur Radio Technician Class Licenses. (Volunteers at the Sheriff's Office earn the title of "special deputy" after they complete training and they are sworn-in by the Sheriff.)

To become a MARC volunteer please contact Sgt. Jennifer Johnson 612-596-9818 or Jennifer.E.Johnson@co.hennepin.mn.us

As part of the Communications Division, MARC special deputies are trained to operate the mobile radio command vehicle, which provides on-scene communications during emergency and non-emergency public safety events.

Team members are experienced communicators who incorporate their knowledge of radio systems and communication protocols to keep important information flowing during a detail. MARC members regularly practice several different functions that assist incident commanders.

MARC coordinates responding resources including other volunteer groups such as the HCSO Emergency Squad, American Red Cross, Salvation Army and the amateur radio community. The CRT operates a 37-foot mobile communications command post that contains five dispatch positions and communication equipment for any contingency.

Mobile Amateur Radio Corps Special Deputies staff the mobile radio command vehicles and use highly specialized equipment to provide on-scene communications at public safety events and disasters. MARC
