Active Shooter Prevention/Response

Despite a decrease in violent crime nationwide, active shooter incidents are occuring with greater frequency.  The Hennepin County Sheriff's Office organizes several training exersizes each year for our personnel and for law enforcement agencies across the region in order to imrpve response capabilities.

The Sheriff's Office recommends that all residents learn about the prevention and response to active shooter incidents. Schools, businesses, places of worship, community groups, and families should create emergency plans and practive those plans each year.  The Sheriff's Office provides training for residents.  The Department of Homeland Security produced a video about this issue and the Sheriff's Office has added information about local resources to the vide. Watch "Run, Hide, Fight: Surviving an Active Shooter Incident." (The video is also available in Spanish, click here.)
