Race and gender

Race and gender data are self-reported. We collect the data during the booking process.

Case types

Case types are internal case categories utilized by the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office, which describe the nature of a person in custody’s primary or most serious charge.

Offense levels

Offense level refers to the primary or most serious charge of a person in custody. A person may have multiple charges. See the glossary for explanation of offense levels.

Charging agency

This data details the agencies responsible for charging individuals in the jail, and the number of individuals charged by each agency.
