The jail is a facility in downtown Minneapolis where adults who are accused of a crime are held before trial.
The jail occupies two locations across the street from each other. One location is inside the Hennepin County Public Safety Facility building. The other is inside Minneapolis City Hall.
Both locations are just north of the Government Plaza light rail station. This station serves both the METRO Blue Line and the METRO Green Line.
All public visiting with justice involved individuals is done online, computer terminals are available at the Hennepin County Public Safety Facility. Call the jail information line for more information at 612-348-5112.
Bail is accepted 24/7 in the Hennepin County Public Safety Facility building. The Jail does not make change. All bail must be the exact amount in cash or through a bail bonds company. The Jail will not provide referrals or set up bail bonds transactions.
The jail is also known as the Adult Detention Center.

Jail visiting is available on-site seven days a week. All visiting sessions are 20 minutes.
On-site visits are free of charge and conducted via a video monitor in the Public Safety Facility (401 South 4th Avenue, Minneapolis) located on the second floor in room 235.
Detainees can have visitors once a day and up to 3 times a week
On-site visiting hours - 7 days a week
7:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.
2:30 p.m. – 5:30 p.m.
7:30 p.m. – 9:30 p.m.
All visitors must create a visitor profile via Securus Friends & Family and request access to have video visits with detainees at the Hennepin County Jail. Once the account has been requested through Securus Technologies, and prior to scheduling an on-site, detention staff must approve the account.
Detention staff will review the request and approve visitors. Once approved, you can schedule video visits online.
Visitors must be at least 18 years of age; individuals under the age of 18 will be allowed to visit but must be accompanied by an adult. No more than three individuals under the age of 18 will be allowed.
Any issues with creating an account, scheduling a video visit, or any technical difficulties during a visit, must be addressed by using Securus Friends and Family
All on site video visits must be scheduled 24 hours in advance.
Visitors must arrive at the Public Safety Facility at least 10 minutes prior to the scheduled visit to ensure your visit starts at the scheduled time.
On-site video visit appointments start at the scheduled time and cannot be altered if either the visitor or the detainee is late for the appointment.
On-site visiting will only be allowed during the set hours above and visits cannot be started after the end time.
Detainees may not always be available during the times listed above due to court, scheduled lockdown times, emergencies, or security concerns of the individual or facility.
You may be asked to present identification. An unexpired driver's license, state identification card, passport, Permanent Resident Card, employment Authorization Card, military identification card, or any other identification with a picture, physical description, and signature is accepted.
You will be subject to weapons screening upon arrival at the facility. Any visitor attempting to bring in firearms, ammunition, explosives, alcoholic beverages, narcotics or any controlled substance will be denied entry to the facility and may be arrested.
Any visitor under the influence of alcohol or drugs will be denied the visit and asked to leave the building.
All visits are recorded and are subject to monitoring. Any deviation from rules will result in the visit being terminated and may lead to suspension of visiting privileges for the visitor, the detainee, or both.
Smoking or vaping is not permitted in the facility.
No food or beverages are allowed in the visiting area
Proper attire is required. Clothing including, but not limited to, short shorts, bikini tops or other revealing clothing are not allowed.
Any disruptive, destructive, sexually inappropriate behavior is not allowed.
Securus Video Connect (Detainee initiated video calling):
Detainees are able to make video calls to friends and family from kiosks located inside their housing unit. Friends and/or family must have an account via Securus Friends and Family to be able to receive video calls.
The cost for video calls is $0.17 per minute for up to a 20-minute call.
Payments must be made in advance by using Securus Advance Connect Feature which can be accessed through the Securus Friends and Family website.
Video Connect calls are limited to one call per detainee, per day, and 3 calls per detainee, per week.Every Saturday a detainee’s 3 Video Connect calls will be added for the week and do not roll over.
All calls are recorded and are subject to monitoring. Any deviation from rules will result in the visit being terminated and may lead to suspension of visiting privileges for either the visitor, the detainee, or both.
Official Visits:
Official visits are allowed seven days a week, 24 hours a day.
Official visitors are professional individuals visiting a detainee for the purpose of conducting non-social, investigative, legal or other official business.
All official visitors must provide identification and professional credentials and register prior to or upon arrival into the facility.
No weapons (guns, knives, chemical and non-chemical irritants, batons, etc.). Storage lockers are available.
Official visits are limited to:
Law enforcement officers with current work credentials and badge (Contact or non-contact visits).
Attorneys with government issued identification and a current bar card (Contact or non-contact visits).
Parole/probation officers with government issued identification and current work credentials (Contact or non-contact visits).
Minnesota Court ordered professionals producing a court order to the jail (Contact or non-contact visits).
Non-law enforcement investigators, legal interns, and paralegals assisting an attorney must be approved by the Adult Detention Center facility commander (non-contact visits only)
Consulate officers (non-contact visits only).
Clergy or Religious leaders with appropriate religious credentials and who are pre- approved by the Adult Detention Center chaplain (non-contact visits only). To arrange pre-approval for clergy or religious leader visits, please contact Chaplain John Cherico at (612) 596-8184 during normal business hours.
You can only receive calls from detainees. You cannot make calls to detainees.

Packages sent to detainee's must either:
Come directly from a publisher, mail order bookseller, attorney or other court official
OR
(If sent by a private party) Be a specific necessary item required for court or release from jail (like clothing)
Volunteers regularly visit the jail to provide instruction and mentoring to detainees.
On request, chaplains will provide spiritual counseling to detainees.
Volunteers provide educational opportunities and conduct meetings such as Alcoholics Anonymous, parenting classes, drug abuse prevention, and support for battered women.
